Why hello there..has it really been 5 years??

Wow, I am SO back into blogging! Quite embarrassed that my last post was in 2008...since then what's happened? My Dad passed away, I got married, I've been on an awesome overseas trip with my Mum. Career wise, I left 3MBS radio in 2010 after 10 years service and went straight into the pit of Mary Poppins, Dr Zhivago, South Pacific and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Phew! Still very much into radio/media, have done presenting/programming at ABC Classic FM - lots of fun!

AMRAP Music

Back in 2004, I had the privilege of working as a Music Correspondent for AMRAP (Australian Music Radio Airplay Project). I was asked to create five features on Australian contemporary music. I was actually getting paid to do something I loved (!). One of the features I put together was for 'Young Rider Blues', a compilation featuring young blues artists in Oz. I remember fondly interviewing Mia Dyson and one Ash Grunwald, who was really cool (especially since I phoned him unawares when he was on the road travelling to his next show).

Have you heard his new album 'Fish Out of Water'? I reckon you should check it out, there are samples on his site...

Cheers music lovers!

Better late than never

Ok, think it's about time I rechare the batteries on this-here blog! I haven't had the urge to pour my thoughts out on the net (obviously). So, what have I been up to in the past 6 months? Well, let's see...I'm still being a radio monkey..infact decided that I'd discontinue Alchemy work (SBS)-- but only because the world of radio journalism didn't suit me. I've realised I want to be a music broadcaster...infact, to be more specific, a 'classical music radio broadcaster'-- (tough gig, that). Am doing some freelance work soon with Classic FM--the home of 'classical music radio broadcasting'---(not so tough, after all). Did a fill for Jessica on 3RRR on Thursday, twas much fun, as usual.
Do you like or loathe classical music??

If you're into multi-cult arts, music and talk, then you can't go past SBS Radio's flagship program 'Alchemy'. I'm sure you've heard of it, right? It's a national nightly show which covers the uncovered. Best of all, it's headed up by a team of keen youngens ..and if I can include a shameless self promo, myself as contributor. So far, I've done stories on the alternatives of the traditional Schoolies Week, went around the streets of Melbs to find out who would be the most unlikely person you would cast to play yourself in a film and uncovered snapshots of Oz locations. It really has always been an ace program and I'm a very new member of the team.
So, if you haven't already, tune in to discover the best beats and beliefs from around the globe.

Well, it was my b'day on March 11th and I turned the big 25! But funnily enough I didn't have one of those mini mid-life crisis which all my friends seem to have when they turn this age...I think it's mainly because of my lifestyle.
For one, I'm the youngest in my immediate and related family, I'm the youngest broadcaster at radio 3MBS and one of the youngest employers in my field of work..so I guess now you can understand why I don't feel old..(at least, not yet).
I think maybe on the eve of my 30th b'day I'll be freakin' out. But that's a long way off...!
If you're worried about age, take a look at this website to find out how many days, hours, even minutes you've already lived! It's intriguing.
